About Acupuncture
I’ve been providing acupuncture in the Austin area since 2010 and it continues to consistently awe and inspire me.
Acupuncture is the insertion of very small needles into the body, and works by several different mechanisms. A few of my favorites are:
- It lowers cortisol levels. When this stress hormone is lowered you feel less stressed but so does your body! This allows inflammation to decrease and for your hormones to be balanced and do their job.
- It stimulates the digestive system – this is key to optimal health. If you’re eating good food we need your body to be able to break it down and use it for fuel.
- It regulates hormones – for both female and male patients. This is why it works so well for fertility, but also for endometriosis, ED, dysmenorrhea, and menopausal symptoms (just to name a few!).
During an acupuncture visit, you’ll give updates since your consultation or previous visit, which is followed by your acupuncture treatment. Needles are usually inserted on the lower limbs (below the knees and elbows), abdomen, head, and ears.
After needles are inserted and you are comfortable, I’ll apply an infrared heat lamp to either your feet or abdomen, set the noise maker to the soothing sounds of ocean or rain, offer you aromatherapy and an eye pillow, and leave the room allowing you to rest for 25-30 minutes. Patients are usually so relaxed during their sessions that they’re able to meditate or fall asleep and get what I like to call an “acu-nap”!
After removing the needles at the end of your treatment, I will apply ear seeds which will stimulate your ears to work towards your health goals. You can read more about that here.
After an initial consultation patients have the following options for ongoing acupuncture treatment:
- Existing Patient – Acupuncture Treatments (60 minutes total) – this is for patients who want more in-depth treatments and are working on resolving one or multiple health issues such as pain, balancing hormones, stress, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, endometriosis, ED, or those who need fertility support.
- Existing Patient – Acupuncture Happy Hour – Stress Reduction (40 minutes) – these shorter sessions are designed to fit into your busy life and focus only on stress reduction. These are great for established patients who need help reducing stress but are short on time. Needles are retained for 15-20 minutes; ear seeds are included.
All new patients need to book an initial consultation before booking an acupuncture treatment. I offer both in-person and virtual consultations, which can be booked here. Please reach out if you have questions about which type of consultation to book, or if you have further questions about acupuncture, you can book a FREE 20-minute Q&A session on the booking calendar.
